We Care About Customer Safety!

Watersports can be inherently dangerous. Therefore, we set out from the very beginning to develop products that would not impact aquatic athlete mobility and the functionality of watersport equipment.  In short, our products were created from the beginning to never get in your way, because…

Our Wax & Key Stash Must Never Jeopardize Customer Safety

Our Wax Stash and Key Stash are designed with the following five requirements:

  1. Our Wax and Key Stash must never jeopardize your leash cuff lock around your ankle or calf.
We surf, and we know there are times when the only thing that keeps a surfer from drowning in heavy surf is being connected to the surfboard by the leash.  Therefore, we designed our Stashes with double-backed Velcro flaps that meld to the Velcro on your surfboard or SUP leash.  This ensures zero loss of Velcro lock when our Stashes are attached to your leash and your leash is wrapped around your ankle or calf.
  1. Our Wax and Key Stash must never interfere with your ability to remove the leash quickly from your ankle or calf when desired.
While it’s important that you remain connected to your surfboard by your leash, we know that there are times when your leash creates a safety hazard.  For example, we know what it’s like to be hung up under water with the leash wrapped around the reef.  Therefore, our Stashes are designed to be positioned on your leash cuff in a manner that never interferes with your ability to access the leash cuff pull tab and to remove the leash from your ankle or calf with one pull.
  1. Our Wax Stash and Key Stash must remain attached to your leash cuff until you want to remove it and transfer it to another leash.
We know that it’s important that you never lose the stuff that you place in your Stash, especially your electronic car key that can cost hundreds of dollars to replace.  Therefore, our Stashes are designed with a special Velcro locking flap that ensures the Stash will stay connected to your leash cuff no matter what type of beating your leash or the Stash may take.
  1. Our Wax and Key Stash must never impact your mobility.
We know there’s no point of using something if it just gets in your way.  Therefore, we make our Wax & Key Stash from the same material as your surfboard or SUP leash.  Our Stashes are lightweight, drain in seconds, won’t catch on your board when you are popping up, and never create drag while you are duck diving, paddling or riding a wave.  In fact, the comment that we receive most from our fans is that they completely forget that their Stash is attached to their leash when they are in the water.
  1. Our Wax and Key Stash must work for every surfer or SUP athlete.
We designed our Stashes to be ultra-flexible and to work for everybody and so that you only need to purchase one. It doesn’t matter if you are regular or goofy foot, and if you position your leash cord on the outside of your leg/ankle, inside of your leg/ankle, or behind your ankle, our Stashes will work for you in a manner that will never jeopardize your safety.  Plus, our Stashes work on all sized leashes including smaller competition leashes to big wave leashes, so that you can transfer your Stash to whichever leash you are using at any given time.

Product Testing

We test our Wax Stash and Key Stash in all kinds of surf, in part because it gives us an excuse to surf more and work less ☺.  Plus, we also simulate extreme surf conditions by attaching our Stashes to leashes and then intentionally breaking the leashes.

We do this primarily to ensure that our Stashes never impact the leash cuff Velcro lock around your ankle or calf.   Specifically, we first attach our Stashes to surfboard leash cuffs and then attach the cuffs around a post designed to simulate a surfer’s ankle.  Then we attach the other end of the leash to a truck tow hitch and pull.  If the leash breaks but the cuff and our Stash remain secured to the post, we know that our Wax Stash and Key Stash did not impact leash cuff Velcro lock and that our Stashes passed the test.

We attach our Stashes to posts with an 11” circumference, which according to military standards, is greater in size than 99.7% of all human male ankles.  We do this to ensure our Stashes will work for all sized surfers.  Plus, we do this to intentionally stack the deck against, as the bigger the post, the less leash cuff Velcro is connected around the post, and the easier it is for the cuff to be pulled off the post and the test to fail.

You can us watch us test our Stashes in this video where we attach our Wax and Key Stash to six surfboard leashes made by Dakine, FCS and Pro-Lite.  We chose these companies, because Dakine, FCS and Pro-Lite are among the most reputable, well known leash manufacturers, and we continue to be impressed by the tolerance that these companies build into their leashes before they break.

Each test in this video follows the same format.  First, we break the leash to ensure that the cuff and Stash remains secured to the post.  Next, we illustrate how easy it is to remove the Stash and cuff from the post with one pull.  And finally, we violently shake the Stash attached to the cuff to illustrate that your Stash will always remain attached to your leash cuff until you want to remove it.

License Our Products Today

Surf Stash products are designed to license to existing water sport product manufacturers & distributors.  Our Stashes complement your products so that you can sell a lot more of your products (more on that below) in addition to selling ours as stand-alone. We understand the importance of protecting your brand, so we designed our licenses to allow you full control of the entire process. You can use

  • Your logo

  • Your quality controls, etc.

  • Your promotion, marketing and distribution channels

  • Your manufacturers with your components (your plastic, velcro, etc.)

so that you maintain full control of your brand. Your design team can even tweak our Stashes so that our Stashes look how you want them to.

Our Stashes consist of plastic or webbing and Velcro and are inexpensive to manufacture yet highly adaptive in solving consumer needs.  This combination yields a high consumer value-to-cost proposition that allows you to profitably sell our Stashes as stand-alone products.  Plus, you can use our Stashes as promotional tools to sell a lot more of your products. For example:

  • Control the female surfboard leash market by bundling your leash and our Wax Stash that attaches to your leash as one product. Then just mark up the price of your leash by the few dollars it costs to manufacture a Wax Stash.  You’ve now significantly differentiated your leash from your competitors by providing girls wearing bikinis (or anyone in a wetsuit) with a convenient means to carry wax in the water when they purchase your leash—just ask any female surfer if they’d like this problem solved.
  • You can also influence surfboard leash sale to any surfer by bundling your leash with our Key Stash so that surfers can now conveniently carry their electronic car keys in the water instead of worrying about hiding their keys under their cars.
  • Control the waterproof cell phone case or dry bag market in the same manner by bundling our Cell Stash or Waterpouch Stash with your waterproof case or dry bag.
  • Our Stashes even influence consumer purchase of big-ticket items based on the needs that our Stashes fulfill. Bundle our Wax or Key Stash and Mouth Mount Stash as a promotion with the purchase of your surfboard, kiteboard or sailboard, and you’ll see a noticeable uptick in board sales.  The same goes for SUPs when you bundle our Key Stash, Cell or Pouch Stash and Hydro Stash with the sale of your SUP.

Our licenses are fair and user-friendly, and we understand working capital and ROI constraints, so we don’t get paid until you get paid.  Contact us today at info@surf-stash.com or (866) 717-8274, x701 to find out more!
